help.....snakes not eating

savana_man Oct 08, 2004 08:33 PM

Both my snakes are not eating. Temps stay between 76 and 87. Places to hide. Fed out side of cage. They haven't eaten in 2 weeks now, one time my largest one bit me instead of the rat (when I was putting him back in the cage). I think the rats are too big for the smallest one so tomorrow I will be getting mice.

New to balls? You've read the care sheets and know ball pythons can go off feed for MONTHS, right? If it's a very young juvenile, I might be concerned after a month or so, otherwise relax a bit; these snakes will go off feed occasionally (it's not just a myth - but folks always seem shocked when it happens to THEM). In the meantime try a smaller meal. Still doesn't eat? Relax. The animals are pretty smart about eating when the need food. I have a few that will eat every 3 or 4 days days for a couple months, then go for a month without food, then pick back up. And right now one big girl that's been off feed for 40-something days. Am I worried? No. The girl will come back on feed just like last year.

Unless you have a new wild-captured. That's a different ballgame entirely.
