I this a good aquarium size?

woud an aquarium 4'x2'x2' (lxwxh) be a nice size for an adult Cali-king? and would a aquarium half that (perfect cube 2'x2'x2') be adequate for a hatchling to 1 year be good? i've heard 1square foot for every foot of snake is that ok? thanx
