Cat-tastrophy with beardie!

Altimaes300 Oct 08, 2004 09:48 PM

My siamese cat managed to open a closed door and jump into the cage with my beardies and got a hold of one of my 2 month old juvies. He's really hurt with a bleeding puncture on his head, and one eye is completely swollen shut. (Could be missing, but can't tell due to swelling) He buried his face and mouth in sand and seems to have ingested a lot of it. I thought he was dead before I went to work but had a little life in him after I soaked him for a while and tried to extract the sand. What should I do? Any advice on how to better nurse this little guy? What are some ways to prevent a possible infection? He is still in critical condition bairly moving and not eating a thing. Any help would be very appreciated! Thanks!
Jeff

I'm sure alot of people will agree with me when I tell you to get him to a Herp Vet asap. Hope everything goes well sorry to hear about your poor beardie.

cat injuries are VERY serious and life threatening...so many toxins that OTC remedies can't fight.

If he is to survive he will need vet intervention.

So sorry this happened to you!

Get him to the vet by atleast today.. Emergency vet bills are insane.. and after my own $250 bill, get him to the Vet.
Best of luck, hope he pulls through the puncture in the neck would be the most immediate problem plus chances of infection and other things.

Sorry, this is terrible, such a shame, I hope he can pull through. But like everyone else has said, Cat bites always seem to get infected.

Also may be some internal bleeding or head truama from the pressure of the cat bearing down, maybe he is in pain.

Have him checked as soon a s possible, Please let us know how ya make out.

And be extremely careful of cats and doggies, around your reptiles. I have both dogs and 2 cats.

I do not allow them in the same room. I have seen the way they look at my smaller lizards.

Cats and reptiles don't mix IMO although I hate cats. I find it hard to believe a dog would jump up onto a dresser to get into a tank.
