venomoids in Maryland or Virginia

budding_writer Jun 27, 2003 09:57 PM

Howdy.

How do I find out venomoid laws for Maryland? How about virginia?

Does anyone know if you need special permits to own a non-venomous (venom void) Cobra in Maryland?

Where do i find out this info? I called the Maryland human resources agency and USDA. Got the run around. As is usual with a government agency, no one knows anything. Last thing they told me was to call the SPCA, which I will do tomorrow.

I know For maryland, you only need a permit for a venomous species if it is not indigenous. So if I took that literally and I make the leap that venomoids are NOT venomous, then logically, I need not any special permits.

Can someone help?

All venomous laws apply to venomoids. Butchered.. err, venomoided snakes are still fully capable of producing venomous offspring, and there is a slight chance of a venomoid regaining its ability to produce and utilize its venom. If the glands were not removed and the ducts are merely snipped, then it's completely possible for the ducts to regrow to their natural state.
I suggest you avoid the whole mess and select one of the hundreds of beautiful non-venomous species to keep as a pet.
