veiled caught a cold... help needed

loko Oct 09, 2004 10:17 AM

a few lines further down i said that my cham started the funny behaviour of taking hour long showers under its dripper.

now he got very inactive (he's shedding) but what concerns me is that he has his mouth open a tiny bit and his nostrils are clogged. he also gapes from time to time. what clogs his nostrils is not the white stuff (exessive minerals)but it's rather yellowish.

i now cleaned the nostrils with lukewarm water and cotton swabs. funnily he turned to very light colors as i handled him.. usually he gets dark/annoyed. doing that i looked into his mouth and it doesn't look good in there. parts are yellowish / brownish and it looks like an infection

am i dealing with an URI here? how concerned do i have to be? what are the steps that have to be taken? can i fix it here or need i go to his vet (knowing what it is)?

thanks for your advice.

ok...

i organized another vet... wasn't that easy, said that it is saturday evening 7pm here.

she gave me antibiotics (baytril) and some powder that should loosen the mucus.
i have an appointment on monday where she'll check my lil friend through.

let's hope he'll feel better soon!

if you want to see how he's doing you can check on him via his webcam:

I would get to the vet asap. It is most likely a URI or mouthrot (mouth infection). Both need antibiotics and vet attention to be resolved. Also, as i'm sure you know, lizards try to hide illness as long as possible, so when signs show up it is vital to get them checked out asap.

thanks for the advice... i already got antibiotics for him yesterday... and my secondary vet (hooray for backups) is going to check on him on monday.
