damaged scales

seespottakeatink Oct 09, 2004 11:54 AM

I have just recently noticed damaged scales on my mohaves' neck...not sure what it could be. I'm including pics to help with identifying/treating this problem. Thanks

I've seen this before. I don't think you should worry much about it. The most likely cause is external/internal paracites. It will most likely grow out with sucessive sheddings.

It worrys me that you have that snake in a plastic aquarium. Please do yourself a big favor and buy a professional grade enclosure.

Goos Luck,

Al

He/she was likely using the critter keeper as a means of photographing the venomous animal safely without having to tube it or, or worse, get a closeup photo while it was on a hook. Al was probably right though about the scale damage, it is something likely to disappear over time. Check your hubandry, making sure the substrate is very clean, and check for mites. Also, make sure temps are optimal and that the snake has access to a basking site, being that it is a desert dwelling species. Best of luck to you.

Hi Chance: You have a valid point. It did not cross my mind that it could have been in the critter carries to get a clear picture.

Best,

yes, it was in the critter carrier to photograph...I could have tubed him, but I didn't want to cause any extra trauma to the wounded/damaged area. But thanks for your concern and help. I'll post back if this doesn't get any better after a shed or two. Thanks again!
