What are these weird things swimming in the tank?

TwoFemaleRES Oct 09, 2004 01:00 PM

When I cleaned the outdoor RES pond yesterday I found scads of little critters swimming in the water. They look like see-through really tiny tadpoles. There was considerable algae in the pond. (Don't know if this is related). Does anyone know what these things are? FYI: They can't be tadpoles - the pond is completely covered and only the turtles were in there.

Ugh! I found out! They are Mosquito larva. Ew! Ok, the turtles are coming in the house now!

actually.. mosquito larvae are COMPLETELY ok with turtles. my turtles used to LOVE them... i had an outdoor pool in my yard this past summer, and i would ONLY put my turtles in when there were mosquito larvae because they LOVE to chase them around and eat them... i cant wait until this summer comes so i can set up the pool again and see them swim after the little creatures!

by the way, if you have EVER fed your RES "freeze dried blood worms" these are actually just freeze dried mosquito larvae! FYI *for your information*

Oh wow - I had no idea... I felt really guilty about this and lo and behold it's actually a culinary treat for them LOL. Thanks for letting me know =0)
