Fire Bellied Toads

The male sounds like a small dog barking, does the female make an almost cooing sound, like a dove cooing? This is my first time having them, it is very interesting and I hope someone can tell me what the cooing means? Does it mean (hopefully) that she is a female and is responding to the male wishing to mate?

females do not call. if they are making different calls they are males of different species such as oriental FBT which are more green or european which are brown

it's not uncommon for female frogs/toads to make noises or "call", but it is by no means as spectacular as a males call

are you sure females can call?? everything i have ever read says that only males call. if you can show me where it says this please do, and count me as wrong. thanks

i honestly don't remember where i saw this. I have read it though on these boards many a time. but i can speak from experience. I have what i am 99.9% positive is 1.2 whites tree frogs, the male will call and call. He will occasionally get a response noise of sorts from one of the two females. The females is sort of a grunt that is very short and not as loud. while his is long and loud and annoying when you are trying to sleep! Just my experience

i guess it makes sense that females are capable of making noise.. i guess they just dont have a reason to like the males do. well thanks for the info, i dont like giving wrong advice and am greatful to learn more
