Everglade rat size?

Foreman Oct 09, 2004 02:55 PM

I just got my first Everglade rat snake a little while ago. He has eaten a pinkie once every four days without a second thought. He is a 04 male. How long can I expect him to get under a normal feeding pattern?

Do you mean, "when will he a go a week without acting hungry"? If so, its a straight-forward answer, "when he gets enough food to keep him full longer. That said, it doesn't necessarily mean he is underfed. Many snakes will eagerly accept the opportunity for extra food. I don't know anything about his size but, if he is a normal 04, meaning hatched in Jul or Aug, then one normal sized pinkie per week is fine. Give him meals no bigger than 1.5 times his widest girth and he'll be fine. Remember, just because he is active doesn't mean he needs to eat - he is just capable of eating. I had a hatchling Everglades escape once and he was on the loose, with no food source, for 187 days. I found him alive and he thrived afterward.

Thanks for the reply but what I really wanted to know is what will his probably max adult size be?

Some get bigger but most adults I've seen have been in this range.
