Are my turtles shedding?

CDP75 Oct 09, 2004 08:22 PM

I've noticed over the past few days, my 2 false map hatchlings are looking strange.
Little white botches are showing up on their shells. It's like they are fading in those spots.

I freaked out and starting looking online for diseases. None of the pictures I found looked like this.
I read about shedding too and it makes me wonder if that's what they're doing.

I was going to take a picture but my batteries just died. Anyone have a picture of a turtle shedding or know of a website with some?

Also, I saw some stuff at petsmart called vita-shell. Is this something I need to get?

I was so worried. Thank you so much for making me feel better.

They are hatchlings? I don't want to scare you, but, normally you will not be able to see them shedding. If their are white or grey patches on their shells, it could be the beginning of shell rot.
Do you have UVB flourecent bulb for them? Explain how you are keeping them? Maybe I can help.

Yes, I have a UVB flourescent light for them and a basking light. Since I first posted the blotches have gone away. Their shells look great again.
