odd? behavior

maestrOwen Oct 09, 2004 10:01 PM

Daphne is really a sweet girl and she doesn't mind being handled...no problems holding her even just after feeding when her feeding response is supposed to be fresh on her mind...and she's pretty head-tame as well

but when I put her back in her cage, she gets kind of...weird....really huffy and her tongue starts flicking slowly like it does when she's mad

and when I slide the top back on and put the lamp on top, sometimes she strikes at it

Does anyone have an idea of what's going on?

thanks

Owen,

Alot of times these guys are more defensive when they are in their own territory. Its not uncommon in the least. You might want to try handling her in her cage if she ever starts to settle down a bit or maybee put one of your socks or other article of clothing.. some people say it helps them get your scent but I really dont know I've never had to myself.

Yup . . . My older short-tail (Fury) is OK when you're getting him out of the cage, OK (kinda talkative) while being handled, but then often FREAKS OUT when returned to his cage -- I always have to make sure he's the last snake I handle for the day before I leave the snake room, or he starts slamming into the plexiglas.

I've never tried the "article of clothing" trick . . . I'll have to give that a shot.
