My turtles are not what I expected.

Before I got my 2 false map turtles, I read that they were shy and liked to hide. I wanted friendly active turtles and everyone suggested painteds.
I couldn't find any painted turtles so I got 2 of the cutest little maps. They must be wierd or something b/c they are very active. They never hide and whenever I sit in front of the tank, they swim right up to say hi. When I do a water change, I take them out and put them in a critter box. They both will swim right to my hand and hop on. They'll even eat out of my hand.

Does anyone else have maps this friendly? I find it strange that they don't act anything like what I read. They're great!

Although maps in general are not the most personable of turtles, many of the, especially Mississippi maps, are quite active and attentive to their keepers.

I think that it generally applies to Wild caught turtles. I have a false map who I've had since a baby who is very friendly and never hides, although when she basks she will get scared if she sees me.
