bdssff2 Oct 10, 2004 01:03 AM

I rescue a three toed boxie from a little boy who had him in a bos in his closet for the past five years.her nails have curled upward and just about into her legs. She also has three holes in her shell and not much of a tail left.Beside that she is very adventurous and outgoing with no signs of resp. problems, shell rot ,mouth rot or DBD.If anyone know how to care for her nails or what cuases the holes in her shells please let me know Thanks Brandon

Brandon,

Does this poor turtle seem to have any weight to it when you pick him up?
Is he eating well?
Would you consider taking it to the vet if it wouldn't bust your wallet.
Mabey the vet could atleast give you some advice on how to trim his nails in that condition. With the nails like that it makes me wonder what his beak might look like? Is it over grown too?

I am no expert but the shell condition could be due to the turtle having poor nutrition or lack of proper lighting or even heat. All of these things put together could be a possible possiblity!
Good luck and keep us posted!

A lot of boxies have those holes in their shells. No body knows why. As for the nails, I would clip them a little bit at a time. Use quik stop for any bleeding!
