two buckets O brats

crocdoc2 Oct 10, 2004 03:45 AM

I was doing a bit of cage cleaning on the weekend and decided to photograph the two V varius clutches while they were waiting for their enclosures to be cleaned. Both of these shots were taken in the same bucket.

The second clutch (top shot) has already grown a fair bit, for most of them are now at least 2.5 times their hatching weight. The ones on the bottom hatched out May/June.

The bigger juveniles are starting to look and act like 2:2

Here's one of the 'pairs', male on left. There's always room for surprises, though.

thanks, Bob.

This is their (Alex and NeLiSh) second week of being fed after coming out of winter, so (if history is anything to go by) there may be some action by the end of this week. Alex is starting to do a bit of tongue flicking around NeLiSh's face.

Last year I didn't even see them mate for the first clutch, so much of the action clearly happened while I was at work, but NeLiSh went off her food while cycling so I had an inkling something was going on.

Gorgeous Dave. They look really awesome. Do you have plans on what you are going to do with them?

crocdoc2 Oct 10, 2004 05:58 PM

Thanks, Mike.

Two from the second clutch have already gone to a good home (there were seven to start with) and the others are going all over the country in the next two weeks(awaiting interstate permits at the moment). At this stage there are only two that haven't been taken, but there are a couple of people interested.

The first clutch (or at least a pair from that clutch) will be going to a new native animal zoo being built by the organisation I work for. I don't have room to raise them to full size, so I'll be getting a friend (who has the appropriate licence and would like some lace monitor experience) to raise them.

Hey Tibor,

Long time no see! How are your lacies?

The babies are all feeding on chopped adult mice, chopped day old chicks and SDZ turkey mix. The recent hatchlings and older clutch are, of course, kept in two separate enclosures. I don't have any photos of the entire enclosures, but they are the original enclosures I raised their parents in.
