Best Official Weigh Time

CJBianco Oct 10, 2004 07:27 AM

Can anyone here tell me when the best time to officially weigh my snakes would be? I don't feel comfortable weighing them the day after they eat, but I'm not sure I'm supposed to weigh them only after defecation, either. Is there a good average inbetween time? I want to make sure I'm recording the most accurate growth-rates possible. How do you guys/gals do it?

Thanks,
Chris

I always do it after shed and defecation, then I feel I have true snake weight not rat weight as well.

I used to weigh them monthly, but sometimes they had recently eaten, so the data seemed erratic to me.

Just my opinion

I weigh monthly~ but the exact date the weights are taken varies because I try to be sure it has been at least 4 to 5 days since a feed before I wiegh.

I still sometimes wind up with a wieght that was obviously "Heavy" sometimes! But I think it averages out!

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, every time the page begins loading, Safari (mac browser) quits and shuts down. Never seen that before. Oh well.

Thanks Anyway,
Chris

Sorry about that. I built it using Frontpage 98 on Windows XP~ thats about as technical as I can get! I have no idea how to make it compatible with your Mac!

Hey CJ,
I have to agree with Tom. I weigh my snakes after they shed, and they normally deficate directly after shedding. This should leave them with an empty stomach, and also allows you to measure weight with growth, due to the fact that they are shedding because they have outgrown their skin. I find that when I look over past records, I don't have weights that are sporadic.
