Vivarium plant question...

embibble Oct 10, 2004 09:50 AM

Hello everyone,

I just purchased 2 female brown (bahaman - if that makes a difference) anoles a little while ago. They seem to be getting along just fine. I reciently moved them into a new container, so I could re-vamp their old encloser which had some major flaws. Anyways I have basicly finnished it (as they are living in it now) however I am still working on adding more interesting plants to it. I will try and post a picture of it soon if anyone is interested in seeing it.

Anyways this brings me to the questions "this looks neat but is it toxic?" So here are the plants in question. - don't worry these plants arn't in the tank.

- Rex Begonia

- "Goldfinger" dwarf umbrella (I think its from the Schefflera family, its also varigated if that makes a difference)
I have read that some umbrella plants are toxic, but I am not sure if mine is.

-Tillandsia "Bulbosa" (I think) this thing looks awsome.

-Medusa pepper plant, now I don't believe this plant is toxic. However it is an Ornimental Pepper plant and it does have actual little peppers (I was told they are non-pungent and edible) But I wasn't sure if having peppers in the vivarium would effect the anoles or the crickets which would be more likely to nibble on them. I think this plant would add some nice color to the vivarium (the peppers go from white to yellow to orange to red)

-Hebiscus, hardy variety

-Pitcher plant

I think thats all of them. Exept for one thing.

Do any of you grow plants from seed in your vivariums?

Thanks,

Hello,
I don't think the begonias or tillandsias will present a problem. I am not sure of the others that you list. I have found that www.blackjungle.com has an extensive vivarium site that I check whenever I am unsure of something.
Good luck!

Thanks.

Heh, I have been to the black Jungle site so many times. I forget but they do have some very good info there, I'll check it out again.
