Outdoor pond setup...suggestions.

XTripleZeroX Oct 10, 2004 01:25 PM

So I'm looking into creating a cheap outdoor pond for my red eared sliders. I was thinking about buying a cheap kiddie pool, some large bricks from home depot (for basking spots), and some netting to cover the enclosure. It is only for the turtles as a part time, enjoyment thing. They are permanently housed in a sixty gallon setup. What have you guys done in the past for things like this? Any suggestions? Better materials? Input appreciated.

I have housed RES in kiddie pools the same way. You can use 2 bricks and then a flat rock on top of them as a basking spot. If you want something sturdier, buy a preformed pond and you don't have to put it in the ground.

One suggestion: never underestimate the escape potential of your turtles or the mischief potential of neighborhood children and animals.
