Outdoor Pond Setup... Suggestions?

XTripleZeroX Oct 10, 2004 01:26 PM

So I'm looking into creating a cheap outdoor pond for my red eared sliders. I was thinking about buying a cheap kiddie pool, some large bricks from home depot (for basking spots), and some netting to cover the enclosure. It is only for the turtles as a part time, enjoyment thing. They are permanently housed in a sixty gallon setup. What have you guys done in the past for things like this? Any suggestions? Better materials? Input appreciated.

well i do the baby pool thing during the summer. but if you dont want to clean your water out ever week, you'll need a water pump so the water circulates. also, you will need to have somewhere or something that covers part of the pool. because if it would happen to get too hot outside, you dont want the turtles to 'cook'. hope this helps ya out

i had that summer set up for my RES for maybe 3 years then i put in a real pond in the ground so i could buy more turtles but anyway make sure they do have a water pump/filter or else the water will get really nasty. it will happen quicken when the water gets warm.
