Anyone else disappointed in N.A.R.B.C. at Tinley Park?

worldsocold Oct 10, 2004 01:30 PM

Personally this show this year was a waste of time, it was mostly ball pythons and chondros no real variation. I saw 5 centralians and those were the only carpets i saw for sale. It looked like this show was promising and this year there wasn't much of anything except for a lot of people and overpriced ball pythons.

I didn't make it to that show but every show I've ever been to has been almost all ball pythons and redtail boas. In KC we don't see many tree boas or GTPs. Ball Pythons and redtail boas and their morphs seem to be all that "most" people want to buy so that's what people sell. The morph market on BPs and Redtails has just gotten obnoxious and pushed those breeders who deal in other species into extinction or forced them to breed BP and Boa morphs only. Sad really. I like BPs and Boas I just would like to see other stuff as well.

It was a decent show, but definitely lacking in the morelia end of the spectrum. Hopefully I'll help to change that next year. Junglewise, there weren't very many high end clutches to hatch out, so you didn't see many available. Hanley didn't produce any, Matt didn't have any for sale, Bob didn't have any. Chicago definitely doesn't have the same level of selection that Daytona does, but I still prefer it as the animals seem to be of much higher quality.

hey,

i went to the show and was disappointed also. it seemed like all there was were leopard geckos, balls, and boas. i only saw 2 or 3 really nice jungles. im not sure whos table it was but it was by the "bubba" the alligator, there was a STUNNING female. I picked up a large but unfortunatly drab female jcp.

It was a ok show.. I personaly think there was way to many Ball Pythons! Very nice ones but none that I could pay 8K for. And I think there was another for 100K!!!! But It was a good show for me . I picked up this little gal from Rico walder. I only saw like 5 carpets in the whole show.

I had a vendor pass and probably walked throught the whole show AT LEAST 100 times in 3 days. I saw some very nice Jungles at Reptiles By Mack. Brian Sharp had Irian Jaya het Granites and three other tables had Irian Jaya Carpets. Nerd had the nicest IJCP. Someone had an adult male jungle that was decent and a couple tables had Diamond Jungle crosses. There was only one coastal at the entire show and I got her...

Matt Turner was also there displaying his jungles. I think most people who want nice carpets contact the breeders before they are born and get on a waiting list. The Chicago show is fairly late in the year making baby carpet even more scarce but they were there you just had to look. I can honestly say I saw something new every time I made a new lap around the show and really enjoyed it!

That snake is WEIRD, WEIRD, WEIRD. I don't even know if I'd call that a Coastal for sure, but I like it, nomatter what.

By the way, there were a few vendors with Coastals...namely Bob Futo, BHB Enterprises, Don Hamper and Mark Bell. They all had some nice ones, but they were males.

Thanks Anthony. I didn't see the other coastals for sale. See, even after walking for hours I still missed them! LOL! This carpet was sold to me as a Coastal but it was clear to me the seller was unsure and had got it in trade. I have his email and he is supposed to be getting back to me after he gets the breeders name. I did show it to a few other people including Will Leary and they all said it looked like a coastal that is just beginning to get some black coming in. Anyway I got a great deal on her, she eats F/T rats, and I really like her.

Jungles - Reptiles by Mack (awesome Jungles), Bob Futo, Selective Origins, Don Hamper, SW Reptile (killer 50/50's) and many more.

DxJ's - Eddie Aste had some nice 66% DxJ's and I saw a couple 75% DxJ's as well.

Irian Jayas - Mark Bell, Bob Futo. Brian Sharp even brought a Granite!

Coastals - There were plenty...

Carpondros - The guy I rode back with took three of them home!

Here's one of my Mack Jungles that I got...

i guess i was just more distracted with the balls and boas. Those granites were KILLER!!!! Werent they like 8K a piece and those carpondros were like 2K a piece. Heres my girl that I picked up from D&M breeders, nice guy.

Yep...the granite female was $8K. Males are even more expensive right now.

Indeed, the Carpondros were $1,500 to $2K each. If they were a little more affordable, I'd definitely own some.

Seeing more colubrids and Ball Pythons and even Boas than Carpets is going to be the case anywhere you go...anywhere from a pet store to a reptile show. Compared to what I'm used to seeing at shows, Tinley had quite a nice selection of Carpets.

I saw carpets but nothing special, Im not a fan of granites. Im a nice coastal person myself and I did see Futo's stock but I see his coastals every swap at Lee Watson's. If you don't have Thousands of dollars to invest Tinley was a waste. I saw some nice Carpets from some friends of mine but they weren't for sale they were just to help sell the cages, I could have went to Lee's Paid $4.00 and saw some nice carpets from some people but also see a lot of crappy animals, Tinley isn't a 100% waste its just im very tired of seeing ball pythons im sick of them I use to own them and they were a very boring plain snake. Im Morelia man (Anything from australia and around there) and Retic guy and Hots (but not for a few more years on owning them that is) thats pretty much the way its been for a while. I did have fun there it was just boring aniaml wise.
