New Pacman !!

Wickedsuzi Oct 10, 2004 02:05 PM

YES !!
Finally got an Albino PacMan... been wanting one forever and now "Hannibal" resides with me !!

So far he eats mostly pinkies but today I gave him two meal worms and a red worm. What is "dusting" {I get my worms at the bait store} and what is "gutloading" ??

THANKS !!

Ahhh wheres the land at?No offense but he needs somewhere to burrow and feel safe and gravel isn't the best subtrate choice as it can easily impact a frog.I use forest bed or bed-a-beast and a water dish( flower pot bases work great) for him to soak in.

Cool! In a few years you'll have one of these on yer hands:

-----
2.1 Ball pythons: Goblin, Ashes, and Bela
1.0 Boa Constrictor Imperator: Apache Fog
0.1 albino Cranwell's horned frog: Bene
1.0 Tiger salamander: Slasher
1.1 breeding Clawed frogs: Mr and Mrs Piggy
1.0 black kittycat, Inky
A bunch of Oscar cichlids, one giant pleco, huge breeding lot of "fancy" (read: deformed) goldfish, and me an' the boyfriend.

You shouldn't feed mice as a staple it can cause lipid build up on their eyes and make them go blind which is not good seeing as how they hunt on movement.Dusting is essential for proper growth you take a calcium supplement and dust feeder items with it and give to the frog.Without calcium the frogs bones will become flimys and weak from metabolic bone disease.Gut-loading is feeding feeder items nutritious foods before they are offered to the frog.I recommend feeding crickets a gut load product which you can find at a pet store fairly cheap.Good luck

Something to think about concering terea cotta flower pot bases.
Many of them sold locally, are made in foreign countries.
They have been know to carry many toxins, that over time in moist conditions can, and will leech out and possibly kill any animals in contact with it.
It has been documented that some people that have used terra cotta flower pots have lost their animals ( snakes ), due to using flower pots as hides.
Is the incidences of this high. No.
But I just thought I'd share this info.
Also...pinkies as a staple...no
Mice as a staple. Not such a bad thing.
However in nature, animals eat a variety of prey. Adding mice to a Pacman's diet for variety is quite healthy.
Although At Hannibals size...I would'nt worry too much about mice just yet.
And I agree with the previous post about the gravel. Not a good thing.
And no need to be too fancy...good old Peat Moss works fine for a substrate...at least my experience.

My pac just loves a mix of about 70-80% Bed-A-Beast and 20-30% Peat moss. I find it holds moisture really well and the moss makes the tank look more appealing.

Nice frog, hope he does well
