I recently purchased this one from Lindsay Pike... With the thin bands, nearly complete connective pattern, and a lower than average bandcount, he looks a lot closer to a chain king than most of the other Pinellas kings I've seen.

or should I say that Pinellas Kings look like Hernando Kings???
Peter
But judging from pictures I've seen, Hernando kings have more of a brown and yellow coloration to them, and develop speckling like most of the kings in the peninsula. I've seen a few Pasco kings (between Pinellas and Hernando) and they are a lot different from Pinellas kings, at least as adults. They look a lot more like your typical Florida king or "peninsula intergrade". It seems they get more floridana influence once you get out of Pinellas County. The kings from right around the Levy/Citrus border are supposed to be pretty much the same as Pinellas kings, according to a friend of mine that lives there/breeds them.
Yeah they get to a more chestnut brown color as adults. The Pinellas Ive seen are for sure darker.

....that I found some of my old records where I called mine "eastern kings" on their sheets. Many moons ago....
Definitely from Pinellas though. I never had an eastern until the '80s. By the way, I'm getting close Nick. Found a shed the other day...

I just remember seeing signs at a certain local park with pictures of kingsnakes labeled as "Florida Kingsnakes" yet they were obviously Eastern Kings, even though it didn't seem right for Easterns to range this far south. It wasn't until last year that I really knew what a Pinellas king was. I remember finding a couple sheds in Clearwater back about 5 years that definitely looked like kingsnakes. One of them was in the same area that I saw the DOR last year... I recently went through and explored that area and some parts look real good. I'll probably make it a point to do a morning bike ride every few days into that area. Once it starts cooling off a little more, I'll probably start going down to hit some of the spots we're both familiar with. Give me a call if you find a live one, or want to meet up to go walk some trails.
