How about measuring the shed to get an idea of how big...

I know that once a snake sheds their skin stretches but can you get a relative idea of how long the snake is by measuring the skin?

You can get a rough idea, but not very accurate.

A better way to measure your snake is to use the Serpwidget's measuring program. You simply photograph your snake next to a ruler and the program will calculate the snake's length for you. It is pretty accurate based on some testing I tried on it.

It is also a free download. Try searching for serpwidget's measuring program online.

On another forum a group of us posted the difference in measurements of our snakes skin compared to an actual measurement. The differences were so varied that we couldn't find an 'average' measurement differene.

1st get a string (sewing string)
2nd wet it
then try to put it down the middle of your snakes back as best as possible. the string should be wet enough to stick to your snake. then simply measure the string. i like this method because i can get right from the tip of his nose all the way to the very tip of his tail. Hope that helps.

here is the link for the program. it works very well. you just need a pic of the snake with an object of known length
