i added a female Varanus doreanus to my collection today. I have had a male for a couple years, and i've always been on the lookout for a female. Jody at Jungle Shadows jungleshadows.tripod.com/ made this possible. Thanks Jody if you're reading this. Jody and I both believe that it is a female by analyzing it's secondary characteristics such as head shape and the bulge at the base of the tail. The monitor was also popped without any obvious male characteristics. I just wanted to see what any of you on this forum think about the head shape. i am aware the female's nose is a little rubbed, but for those of you who know these monitors you know they are very flighty and it takes them a while to settle down. first pic is of female second is of male
ps. jody, i put the two together for a short while and watched them... they seem to not mind each other at all. they are however seperated now, and the female has her own 40 gallon breeder tank until i get their permanent tank set up. thanks again! here's a pic of them together
