Another Feeding Question...

CJBianco Oct 10, 2004 06:44 PM

So I was feeding my female Het Piebalds the other day, and Cleopatra (my largest) ate both her weaned rat and Akasha's. I've since separated them, but I'm now wondering if she should be fed two rats at each meal from now on. I had planned on a single rat every five days, but should I up it to two rats? If so, do I only feed every seven days then? She's only about 400 grams, so she's still a young one. Any ideas? Opinions? Donations to my daughter's college fund?

Thanks,
Chris

well it all depends on how fast you want here to grow. if she feeds on 2 with no prob ever 4 days, why not. i feed all my females whenever they will take food. i have one sub adult that has gained 400g last month, she may breed for me this year. she will eat 2 small/med rats every 4 days. she has not developed a pin head and body is not overly fat. i have another female that is 750 gm and will only eat every 7 days but she eats 3 small/med rats which makes her look very very fat. but with winter comming on a little fat on a female is a good thing, especially if she goes off food for the winter. as the animals get older it is good to cut back on the food so you don't get an obese snake which is a bad thing. and btw if you get those het females up i have some het males that would like to meet them, lol.

Thanks for the info. It's good to know that only two every five days won't (probably) harm them. Of course, if it does, I'll obviously slow down the feedings. Oh, BTW, do people really share the breeding process? I mean, is it like dogs where the owner of the male gets the pick of the litter as his fee? Just wondering.

Thanks Again,
Chris

on occasions. i have a friend of mine that has a great male pastel but limited females to breed it to this year. i offered one of my females so that he could get some more offspring. out of this pairing if successful i would get one pastel male he would get the rest of the clutch. of course the person who has more money invested would get the better deal involving picks. usually breeding loans are done with the larger breeders when they co-own or are working on projects together.
