Ball Python Market Question

CJBianco Oct 10, 2004 06:48 PM

Is there a particularly better time or season to buy Ball Pythons at a lower price? Lately it seems people are mostly selling Possible Hets, so I'm thinking that this may be near the end of the market season. I've also seen prices drop dramatically on certain morphs in just the last few weeks since I've been coming to this forum. Is this due to the end of the selling season, or are the values on Ball pythons just dropping that quickly? Any opinions on this?

Curious,
Chris

This time of yr. adult females (normals or morphs) will fetch top dollar with no questions asked...Look at the classifieds, u see normal females breeding size for $650 when 4-5 months ago they were a third of that....Why someone with a breeding co-dom can make 10-30 times that back with her and they don't have time to wait to raise up smaller girls....Males are getting higher dollar also this time of yr., if they are good sized '04s or proven breeders...People will spend a few more bucks on them if there is a high chance that it will breed for them this season and make them $$$...Small males and females that won't breed are selling for less this time of yr., because breeders need to start making room for what they are expecting and get all their balls and breedings in order...So the need to move inventory....If they don't plan on keeping them then they are adding to the overhead costs (feeding them, heating, etc.) so they'll be losing money by sitting on them all and waiting until a good time of the yr. to sell them for more...Plus they don't know what the market is going to do if they sit on them too long so they cut prices a little and move their product...So when is a good time to buy a morph....When u look on the classifieds and you see 10 of the same morph being offered...One breeder will undercut another to move their animal if there are a bazillion more of the same thing listed....Supply and demand....That's all the ball (along with any other market) is...
