Anybody using one of those Freedom Breeder racks?

BobS Oct 10, 2004 06:53 PM

Thinking of getting one. What do you think of them?

Thanks for your time. Bob.

I have them and I love them.

The only down side to them is that the open mesh top leads to very low humidity in the cage. If you have species that require higher humidity, you will have to find some way to raise it. I am thinking about putting a piece of plexiglass over the mesh for a few of my snakes to keep the humidity up when they are getting ready to shed.

Otherwise, they rock. I just bought a couple of levels of the cages with the clear plastic inserts at the front. The only problem I have is that I wonder why I didn't get them years ago!

I also have a couple of levels of the medium (white tubs) and small racks. If you get the small racks, get the white tubs. The clear ones are a little flimsy and my snakes didn't settle down very well in them anyway.

Thanks Chris. You also keep Gaigeae right? How do they do in them? Are you able to disable the heat in some cages like for Gaigeae?

Thanks, Bob.

Bob,

I have my gaigeae in the bottom level in a pair of their FB-CB70-82CK3 (large reptile 2 tray with windows). I simply don't have the heat tape plugged in for that level and I keep them on the bottom to avoid heat coming up from lower levels.

Frankly, I don't really worry to much about my gaigeae temps. I simply leave them at room temp (70°-75°F) with no supplemental heat and they are happy and fat. They are pretty easy snakes to keep, I think the stress about "keeping them cool" is overblown.

Thanks Chris. You've had your Gaigeae for a while now haven't you? Bob.

I bought them as 2 year olds in 2001.
