Why does everyone else's gecko eat so much?

tim5580 Oct 10, 2004 07:54 PM

Everyone keeps saying their baby eats 10 crickets a night. Or their baby eats 15 mealworms. Mine is 6" long and he only eats about 2 or 3 mealworms 1/2 or 3/4 inch and a cricket about 1/4 inch long. He looks healthy, in his second shed since I got him now, and has a kinda fat tail, it bulges in the middle. You guys feeding them tiny ones or what? Or you think it has something to do with the weather, I left the window open a little the other night by accident and it dropped to 35F outside, he might be sensing the oncoming winter. He is kinda not so active anymore.

It rubs the lotion on it's skin.
Bleach, good to clean tanks. Ammonia, good to clean tanks. Bleach mixed with Ammonia, good to make ammonium chloride gas to kill you while your cleaning tanks.

Young geckos tend to eat more than adults, its not suprising for juvenilles to eat 10 crix a night (1/2-3/4" crickets). However, leos do slow down on eating at this time of the year. In your case, I think your leo is eating a bit too little, but as long as he's maintaining his weight (he should be gaining weight at this age) and healthy, I wouldn't worry too much.

Did you provide enough belly heat for him? The warm end can be 90-92F.

Well the problem might be that he is to cold. When i didnt have enough heat for my girl she didnt eat to much. But now she is an adult. I guess shes bigger than usual ( 9 inches ). But mine eats 10 crickets every other day.
