ATTN... Mystical Dragons..Shelf Liner Question

XTripleZeroX Oct 10, 2004 08:32 PM

So you responded to one of my earlier posts about substrate. You recommended shelf liner. I went to Target and got some plain white "Shelf Liner". I love the way it fits and looks, but it seems kind of slippery for my dragon. You said you use "Duck Brand" shelf liner. Where do you get it? In addtion, what's the difference between shelf liner and grip liner? Is grip liner safe to use as well? Thanks for your input, I dig the shelf liner, but want to find some that lets my guy have better traction.

I tried shelf liner. I got mine at home depot. The stuff would have made cleaning my tank easier but i didnt think it looked as good as sand and my lizard absolutely hated it. She would get so stressed walking on it. She kind of looked like a cat with tape on her paws trying to walk. Constantly trying to avoid letting her feet touch the foor. So i went back to sand and she was so much happier.

I am not Mystical-Dragons but I can tell you where to get Duck Brand Shelf Liner. Wal Mart is the place to get Duck Brand Shelf Liner and I would suggest getting a light color because dragons look better on light backgrounds. Here are a couple of pics of my dragons on my favorite shelf liner.

You can find the product I use, as well as places in your area that sell it at www.duckproducts.com.

The kind I use has a non slip grip backing, but the top is smoother then the bottom with small indentations all through the liner which gives them all the traction they need. I buy the smooth top easy liner as it comes in a lot more colors, and is a bit easier to wipe down then the others. The liners Should not be really thin or the sticky backed kind, if so it's the wrong kind. The non slip grip backing gives it some thickness. I'm not sure of the grip kind you speak of, but I know they make cheap ones that are spongy, and will end up falling apart or soaking in the liquid which you would not want..

Glad it's working well for you.. So far I've found nothing easier or safer for the dragons.. Looks go out the door when you have to pay the vet to remove sand from a dragons gut, or you start keeping more then 10 dragons LOL Safety and ease become the priority.. I'd rather have 20 funky colored spotless cages then 20 sandy cages that are dirty after the first dragon poops or hides his salad/pellets in the sand for a future snack I gotta say I really like the palm trees, and so does my dragon Buddy hehe, but Randy I like yours much better!! Where you finding all those great colors???LoL

Hey Matt,
LMAO, love the future snack stuff. Yeah you are right about the ease of cleaning especially when you have more than a few dragons. Well I get all my Shelf liner from Wal-Mart. As I said before I love the light colored Shelf liner. I switched over early this year. The main reason I switched is because of the constant contact of my dragons with their own feces when they were on Sand. Shelfliner is the perfect way to keep dragon parasites in check and avoiding any superinfections. Hey good talking to you!!

....and while you're in Sprawlmart you can pick up some ceramic tiki mugs and maybe an orange or blue plastic plant to use as cage decoration...(har!)
