Ok, I got my tank set up and bought two little collareds today. I'm not done yet, but here are a couple of pics of my setup.

It doesn't appear you are supporting a lot of those structures on the sand. I have had two lizards die by burrowing under large objects like that on the sand. If you haven't already, I suggest putting a couple bricks on the bottom of the tank, then setting any rocks on there, making absolutely sure they are stable...that way the lizards can bury under it with no fear of collasping. I can't recommend that enough!!!!

No, I'm not sure. That's just what they were labeled and I didn't have evidence to the contrary. I looked up Crotaphytus collaris (which is what they were labeled) and the pics I found seemed to match mine. I dunno.

As to the rocks... the entire structure is supported by one large base stone which is the width of the tank and nearly the same measurement the other way. With such a wide footprint, they'd have to dig a hell of a hole in order to get it to move. The structure on the right is a pice of grapevine, and the sand is much shallower there, so I think it will be ok.

a laterally compressed tail, more like a bicentores or vestigium. Glad to hear your structures are well supported. I was bummed when I found mine had suffocated beneath rocks.

Tank looks great!

I took a closeup pic last night, but it came out blurry. I didn't have time to take another, but will be soon. I want to positively identify, plus figure out sex. I know it is pretty hard when they are young, but I'm going to try! I think I have a male and a female. They were squirming around a lot when I got them, so I couldn't really get a good look. I didn't want to disturb them any more than was necessary yesterday while they got settled in.

The good news is, they both ate within an hour of being home. The one is definitely a pig... he ate four big silkworms! The other one only ate one, but that is a good start.

Looks pretty COOL, if the rocks are secure, then they should have a blast in there.

Wish you a ton of luck with them. Keep the pics coming, we love to see them. Get a closer pic of your new buddies, have to see what they are.

GREAT JOB and WELCOME !

Thanks, Eve!

I pretty excited about these little guys. I still have some new bulbs, a new fixture, and a new hinged top coming. I spent so much that I ran out of disposable income, so the background structure will ahve to wait. I'm getting that 3D "rock wall" stuff to make it look like a desert canyon.

Have no fear, I will be taking more pics very soon, probably tonight!

OT: Speaking of images, why doesn't this thread have the little IMAGE tag next to it when it has pics?

Well, bloody hell! I could only put one pic per post in! Is there something I'm missing, or is the only way to do that to specify the gallery URL of additional pics?

Thanks for the info on the pics. I was linking to pics I hosted on my own server. I'll upload the next batch to Kingsnake now that I know you can do that!

Regarding the pics you sent.... I've seen those. They're from your site, right? Been there several times!

That's what I'm going on, but need to get a closer look once the lizards settle down a bit. I tried to look when I bought them, but the little guys were going mental!

If you have collareds that you can not hold, or are as you say going mental on ya, BEST TIME to check them out is in the morning while still cold, or after lights are out for awhile at night.

They will be much less apt to go NUTS, heheeh get a magnifying glass it really magnifies the vent area and you get a good look at those post anal scales.

Be looking forward to your new pics

Ha! I was actually thinking of trying that! I'm glad to know that it actually works. The problem is, I already get up at 5:30am for work, and that gets me out the door just in time. I have no time in the morning. I was thinking that if they haven't settled down, I would try it by turning off the basking light a little early and letting them cool down a bit.

If not, there's always the weekend! I need to know the sex before I name them, so it is pretty important to me. I don't know what I'm going to do if I end up with two males.

Good idea on the magnifying glass. I'll have to get one if all else fails!
