adopted 3 legged FBT

janome Oct 10, 2004 09:53 PM

I'm new to fire bellies. My friend has some so thought I'd like to get a couple. I bought 2 at Petco (I know...not the best place). Then they told me about a 3 legged one they had for adoption. So I took him also. I have them set up in a 10 gallon tank with a bunch of gravel piled up at one end with a fake looking log to help hold up the gravel and a couple of bigger rocks. This is their 'get out of water side'. Also a couple fake plants for cover.

Then they have a swimming area with a filter that spills over on to a rock. They all seem fine at the moment. I even fed them and they went for the crickets right away.

My question is will the 3 legged one be ok with the other 2 or should I house him by himself with more of a land area verses just some rocks to climb out of the water area? His left rear limb is missing part leg and no foot. I have another 10 gallon tank and also a 5.5 gallon tank. I could house him in one of those.

Does anyone have an opinion on this or any one delt with a 3 legged frog before? Thanks.

just make sure he is eating and not being bullied by the other toads too much. if he starts to loose weight then i'd be concerned

He is doing fine. All 3 are eating. He was grabing onto one of the others and croking. Petco had him in a 10 gallon in the back room. Not much light and a little water dish. So I think he is in heaven.

almost all FBT are wild caught imports, it could have sustained the injury in transit or was caught with only 3 legs. but anyway good luck
