how often do gophers drink

janome Oct 10, 2004 10:18 PM

i bought a baby albino sonoran gopher at a show back in aug. he is doing fine eating and shed once for me. but i've never seen him drink or show any interest in drinking. so was wondering if he needs a full water bowl all the time. somedays it dries out and i don't fill it till the next day.

with my corns and python i've seen them drinking occationally but am new to gophers. i've read they are native to the southwest which makes me think in the wild they don't have access to water 24/7.

what do you think? i have him housed in a 'short' 10 gallon size enclosure with couple of hides and sticks to climb on, which he seems to like.
Thanks anyone.

Yeah, you need to have clean water available for him all the time. Just because you don't see him drinking doesn't mean he doesn't drink. If he's healthy and feeding well and shedding OK, rest assured he's drinking.
