Feeding

snakesta44 Oct 11, 2004 08:54 AM

I've heard that when feeding a snake, you must pick it up and put it in a seperate box. This way, the snake doesn't assosiate the sound of the cage being opened with food. I've also heard of people just throwing food in the cage and letting the snake eat from there. Which method would be the best choice for a kingsnake. I feed my king frosen fuzzies, and I don't use sand as bedding.

Basicly, I want to know if it's ok to just drop a defrosted fuzzie by her hide and leave it there. I've read this is the way to do it in some books, but hobbiests I've talk to tell me to feed my snake outside the cage. Any verification on this subject will be highly appriciated.

I'm personally in the habit of feeding outside the cage. I also have more than just Kingsnakes too. Some snakes even ones that are fed outside the cage still associate the lid opening with food. I have a mexican and a 50-50 cali that does. All my others don't. Once there in the sweater box they know food is comeing. I do have some large boas so thats why i do it being bit by an 8 footer don't feel to good. Hope this helps Paul
