"Locking" bypass doors

purduecg Oct 11, 2004 09:33 AM

How does everyone handle the bypass doors on the front of cages. I am having doubts that my little Uro could open one of the doors by himself... but there is always a possibility. Is there some sort of a locking system I can incorporate that does not need to swing down into the wood? I found some things on rockler.com but they all locked into the wood, and I do not have any space to do that.

All ideas, or thoughts on the matter are appreciated.

Thank you!

Elizabeth

A Uro won't be able to open the doors. I'm sure of that.

An idea put forth on this forum is to use wooden dowls placed in the glass track. To easily pull them out place a small strip of tape around the dowel to act as a small finger tap of sorts.

I think it's a great idea.

The dowel idea IS a great idea. Just like my "security" for my sliding patio doors.

I wasn't 100% sure a Uro wouldn't be able to open them, if that is a generally accepted fact though, I just won't worry about it.

Thank you!

you can get locks for sliding glass doors like used on displays at schools and for jewlwery cases. i belive they can be bought at a hardware store or glass store or something. they are a j shaped piece of metal that goes in the space in the middle of the door hooking around the inside edge and then a locking piece slides on the long part of the j and lockes in place with a key making it so that neither glass pane can be moved either from inside or out. that is your best bet.
