my male uro has been opening his mouth and holding it their for a few seconds at a time. what is this? he hadnt done this before i put the female in.

just to encourage some more thinking... is the male usually the one to always try to get the better basking spot? mine always goes one step further up than my female. if she is on the top basking, he will lay on top of her. i was just thinking, would it be smart to put a better conductor of heat, just a little bit lower? because i changed my setup. i put a broken flower pot (thx to robyn's video ) on top of a few slate (i think) rocks. the temp on the rocks was the same temp as on the flower pot. i figured the male could still think he has the better spot, but both he and the female can still thrive...

it sounds like your male uro is gaping, like panting but lizard style. does he do this under his basking spot? maybe since you said you redid the cage the temps have gotten hotter or maybe since he seems to favor the basking spot, he is just too lazy/paranoid to move from it now so he pants instead of moving. i hope that made sense and it is just a thought.
also do you have two basking spots? that might help them from playing "king of the mountain"
and there is a guy who posts here named jimbo, he has a link to his webpage and on it are videos and i think there is one of two uros being introduced. you could watch it and see what they do just to give you some idea.
