Hello all, quick question..

kibby Jun 28, 2003 01:25 AM

I have two beautiful dragons, one male one female. They live together all the time and have never had any problems. The female laid a clutch at the end of May. About two weeks after she started limping, started giving her extra calcium and tried to fatten her back up. She still eats exceptionally well, but is still limping. Although it is progressively getting better. I am almost positive it is not MBD, just a sprain or ligament damage. Upon inspection one of her front claws (on the leg that is limping) has a little break in it; I am pretty sure she got it caught on the couch or some other material. Thus causing the sprain or limping. Question is how long should it take to heal? She does not seem to be in any discomfort or any other behavioural difference. Guess I am not that worried just would like to be reassured.

I have never posted here before but I have been visiting regularily for the last six months. I am glad there are informed people out there that take the time out to help others.

take care,

just to add, it is not a break in the nail just like a hang nail that would get caught in a piece of material etc..

anyways thanks for your time,

Is it just the nail that is torn off, or partially torn? In this case you could just apply antibactia cream (neosporin I think is what is recommended here) onto the area. I would also recommend removing the female from the Males tank into one of her own, especially if you don't want lots and lots of babies. Put her in a new tank with just papertowel or unprinted newsprint for a substrate at least till the nail has healed. She should fatten up nicely on her own as well and be less stressed by the male trying to mate with her all the time.

if the nail or toe gets worse, or turns black, deffinitely take her to the vet to check on it.

no the nail is now OK, just limping a little. It was more of a nick that would get caught in material. She loves to climb, and am pretty sure that is how the sprain happened.

the sprain was my main concern, is 3-4 weeks normal healing period? there is no reputable herp vet here where i live. only one but have heard bad things.
