Back to the ol' vet

jwthought Oct 11, 2004 03:44 PM

Yep, we're going back. She won't leave the bottom and is very lethargic. She is still eating but I dont like how she looks. Her appointment is for tomorrow. And for those keeping track, I've spent over $800 on her in the last 2 months. To anyone considering a new veiled, please keep vet visits in mind when budgeting for a cham. I'll let you know what happens at the vet.

oh no I hope it is something that can be "fixed." Since she is eating it may be stress. Will look for your post tomorrow...

I know that you said that the vet gave you pain medication
for her, but did he also prescribe antibiotics? Did he
give you any advice about how to look after her stitches/cut?
Has she defecated since she has been home?

Just mentioning these things since they might be
important to ask/mention to your vet.

I wish you good luck with her!

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. No, we don't have antibiotics and she hasnt defecated. Her appointment is in a few minutes, so i'll post again later.

The vet said that it looked like her wound was healing nicely, but gave us an anitbiotic to be on the safe side, ( and probably to pad the bill). He also thought that she probably isnt defecating because it might her hurt her to try to move her bowels. I'm supposed to give her that high calorie cat food mixed with ensure. We'll see how that goes, as she's never been force fed before. When she got home she was trying to climb all over. I'm sure it was to get away from me, but it was nice to see her active. So, for now, I'm leaning toward the Confident end of the spectrum. haha We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Hi Josh,

Having the aniti-biotic on hand is probably a good idea - just in case. Hopefully she will continue to improve. Don't forget to give us a daily (OK, every other day if need be ) update on her (and your - lol!) condition

I'm glad to hear that the incision is healing nicely!
I thought it would be "standard procedure" to give antibiotics
after a serious surgery like your chameleon had.

It likely would hurt her to try to move her bowels, but it has
to happen sooner or later....and I just wanted to mention it
in case she doesn't.

If you have to force feed her, be careful that she doesn't
aspirate it (get it into her lungs).

You said "When she got home she was trying to climb all over.
I'm sure it was to get away from me, but it was nice to see
her active" I hope its a sign of her improving. I'm sure that it
takes a few days to get over a surgery like this and I'm sure
that the stitches would be uncomfortable too.

Please keep posting updates once in a while?
Good luck with her!
