Phantasticus vs ebenaui

eastarch Oct 11, 2004 07:56 PM

About 5 months ago I purchased a gecko at a show from a wholesaler. He did not know for sure if it was a phantasticus or an ebenaui. The tail is short, but in the amount of time I have had it has not grown at all. So could it be an ebenaui with its full tail, or a phantasticus with a lost tail which is not regenerating. Does anyone know of other markers I can use to tell the difference between the two types.

post a picture and we'll be sure to tell you.
i would almost guarentee if it has a fully looking developed tail that is just very small it is an ebenaui.

yea, i agree. if its been 5 months and you havent noticed any change in the tail, more than likely it's ebenaui. also, i think ebenaui tend to be a tiny bit bigger than phantasticus (but hard to tell if you dont know the age).

Here is pic of the possible ebenaui. You can see she has no tail to speak of. She looks like she has lost it at some point. It does not seem to have grown at all since we have had her.

It looks like a phantasticus to me but I'm no expert. I have never seen bloching on the skin like that in ebenaui but I have seen it before in phantasticus. Awesome colors, one of the nicest animals I have seen.

Looks like a phant regrowing the tail. Heres a pic of a female U. phant and U.ebanaui just for reference.
