He's looking at you and begging for water.
Help him, please.

Looks more like he wants some sugar.

Here is a pic of my rudi. He is growing so fast. I wish I could find a female. Seems difficult.

Here is another pic. All he wants is more food, and more, and more.

Why are you calling your monitor a male? Just curious...

Beware of calling anything, anything, without it laying eggs. Or laying pipe. hahahaha
I'm still admitting that none of the sexes of my animals are for certain...

or this

Then you just need to know what it is that you see.

Simple right?

I have seen large Hemipenes when he deficates. I know what I am looking at. This is not my first rodeo. I had a female picked out that was compared and probed against a large number of other rudicollis and agreed she was almost a female for sure but had to pass due to her condition. She was very light and a little beat up. Oh well. I am sure one will come along and I have time. My male is a ways from being mature.

...perhaps you can explain to all of us how you can sex a monitor by probing it. Several people would like to know. Last time I checked, females had hemiclitori that are reasonably long that a probe would slide into easily, making it very very tricky to tell a male from a female (sure, the hemipenes of a male would be longer, but how much longer in any given monitor?).

wingert1 Oct 13, 2004 12:07 AM

The female that was probed was one of many that were compared and probed by a large scale impoter. Read my post, I mentioned that this was not conclusive. I did not say: I probed her and she is a female for sure. As for my male I commonly see his manhood when he deficates and they are quite long.
Azz for my comment it seems like I am the one getting jumped on for putting a sex to my Monitor. Sorry if I am wrong. I just thought you people might want to see a nice picture or two. There!

all he said was probed???? Is there a need to call David an a hole dude??? give me a break

wingert1 Oct 13, 2004 12:29 AM

One more thing is I thought I had spelled probed wrong and that you were drawing my attention to that and I thought Gee, what an ..... Sorry for the mistake. My fault.
The impoter said he checked a lot of things like head size, probing, and comparing a large group. He did not guarantee sex even at that.
So, I think I have a male and I almost had what might have been a female. Is that OK with everyone. I will try to refrain from posting any pics or knowledge as I must not be worthy to post among such experts. Again I apollogize for my rude comment earlier.

No one is angry with you for posting a photo, or for even guessing the gender of your monitor. We've all done that. Heck, I kept referring to my first monitor as a 'she' until I was proven otherwise.

I was just questioning why an importer would even attempt to sex a monitor by probing. It isn't just inconclusive, it can be quite dangerous for the animals (monitors have a far more muscular tail than snakes). My bet would be that he/she claimed to have probed them (unless you happened to be there watching the procedure), when in fact they hadn't.

I'm cool. I just hope that maybe I can find a female and someday have little hatchlings. I had my male when he was a hatchling and they are just fantastic.
