time to bring the turtles in

dragoncjo Oct 12, 2004 10:43 AM

at what temperature should I start bringing my box turtles in for the winter. I really hate bringing them in, but nightime temperatures have been dipping into the low 40's with daytime temps in the high 50's, low 60's. I am going to leave my wood turtles out pretty late, being that i was up in pennsy this weekend and saw several swimming in a river that was 57 degrees. Just not sure when to bring in my spotters, boxies, and my western pond turtle. thanks.

I leave mine out all year long, they hibernate on their own. Where do you live? Were you planning on hiberntating them indoors?

i live in new jersey. I normally bring all my turtles inside in the winter, because i have never hibernated them before and i have had them for the last decade. Also, i have chicken wire 8 inches deep in my enclosure, I originally put this there thinking that my turtles might try to dig out. However because of this chicken wire i don't think my turtles will be able to dig deep enough.
