Tree frogs in southern Canada?

twee Oct 12, 2004 11:41 AM

I live close to Toronto, Ontario, and while walking through a marshy park, I found a little froggy on the ground. Since I almost stepped on him, I picked him up to move him near the water, and was suprised to see sticky toes on him. I put him on a tree near where I found him and left. He was green with grey stripes, and sort of bumpy. Does anyone know what he is? I didnt have a camra with me, so I can't supply a picture. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi there,

I'll bet you found a Gray Tree frog, (hyla versicolor) They are cool little frogs. They should be about ready to go into hibernation. Nice find. Hope this helps.

Really? I never knew we had spring peepers! Where are they found? When do they wake up from hibernation?

Yep, we have spring peepers! Though constantly hearing them in marshy weeds, I've never seen one. Well, I actually might have seen one, as I did see a small light tan coloured from in Tobermory.

They can be found in marhsy areas, with reeds. Pretty much any large pondish area, in which has reeds for them to climb up on and siiiiiing!

I've heard Spring Peepers as early as VERY early srping with snow still on the ground!!!
