Cribo feeding frequency?

LouEvil Oct 12, 2004 12:14 PM

I have a yearling male Black-Tailed Cribo and I was just wanting to consult some of you who are more experienced with these snakes as to how often an optimal feeding schedule would be? I am currently feeding him a f/t rat pup every 5 days. Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated! Thanks.

How large is the snake?

They can be deceptively long so you may want to get a measurement.

That doesn't sound like enough food for a yearling to me.
I have 2004 indigos taking a rat pup every 4-5 days.

My yearlings are usually about 4' and taking small-medium rats.
A 5 day feeding schedule is fine, but unless the snake is very small for a yearling...it should be eating more than a rat pup.

The snake is around 2 1/2-3 feet long.....perhaps I am mistaken on its age....it may have been an early '04......the rat pups leave a decent lump so maybe he is a bit small. Thanks for the input guys....I really appreciate it.

They are as long as 22" at hatch.

That is either an early 2004, or a somewhat "stunted" 2003.
If the rat pups are creating a decent size lump, than I think every 5 days is fine.

Then just gradually increase the size of the rats as the snake grows.

Yeah, I think he is an '04......he still has a little bit of that mottled coloration that babies have......thanks for the help Dean!

dean is right david. my leftover 03 uni's have been eating small rats [sometimes 2 at a time] all summer. six rat pups/ month is way under what it needs and wants unless it's extrodinarily small.......dan
