I have a desert king in my charge that has been so sweet and gentle for the two years Ive had it, but as of late it has developed a feeding response. I have hand fed that snake a gozillion times, even held it in my hand while it ate out of the other. Well today it all came crashing down. I knew when I opened the top of the cage and it started looking up and shakeing its tale like a rattler that it was more than just a little eager to be fed. So I dangled the mouse above him, pinching the tail between my fingers, and slowly lowered it to the snake. Thinking I wouldnt mind seeing him wrap around the mouse I gave it a little spin to make it seem alive. With my eyes glued on the snake,I was thinking, GET IT!GET IT!when he shot right past the mouse and sank his tiny teeth into my index finger, completly catching me off guard and freaking me out whole heartedly. The sudden shock of watching and feeling a snake grab my finger, although its happened before with bigger snakes, caused me to retract my hand at the speed of sound, and bounced the mouse off the ceiling. To be honest when the mouse hit the ceiling I thought for a minute it was my snake. And I made a catch that would have made Pudge Rodrigueze proud. The snake thankfully had let go as quickly as he had grabbed me, and was sitting there looking at me like, well, wheres the beef? Oh those special moments when you can sit and look back and think, yap, that was stupid. LOL SKINNER
