Nice snakes you found. Do you know the subspecies? Where did you find them (approx)?

They were C.v.viridis and Nebraska. There were all the way from young of the year that hadn't yet shed to one big ol' gal a bit over a meter long and 650 gm.

Cool. Im out in Cali where we have southern pacifics, formerly C.v. helleri. They really look a lot like those. Ive only seen babies for the past few months though, of everything. I only wish I could find another adult anything before the season ends, but I think its a lost cause.
So are there a lot of those out there? Probably half the snakes we find out here are mojave rattlesnakes. I cant believe how common they are. Ive heard about those being common in the plains so I was just wondering if they are as frequent there as mojaves are here.

No, unfortunatly, there is alot of them here, although there can be local concentrations of animals this time of year. Sometimes an area will be found like the dog town we were in that makes it appear that they are in fact commom but one has to take into account that what one is seeing is actually the entire population of the area.

Oh, I see. Good thing you hit the right spot then! Nice photos anyway.
Are these winter breeding congregations starting to get together now?
Thanks for the photos.

Together and more then likely down for the winter. The temps were starting to drop on Sunday when we were heading home and have got colder since then.
