help -- underdeveloped baby leo???

alieliza Oct 12, 2004 04:13 PM

This is our newest baby. It hatched 3 or 4 days ago. Its parents were unrelated, a snow female het for jungle, a hypo tangerine male poss het rainwater albino. It looks to me like a jungle.

These pictures were taken on the day it was born. Its hind legs would seem to overextend, and get stuck that way.
They have since improved, but aren't completely normal, and his right front leg seems to be off too, his hand/wrist rolls. Sometimes when this happens it goes limp (or maybe stiff), other times it goes back to normal right away. This seems to be getting gradually better day by day, but Im concerned that something may be wrong, and am concerned about long term effects.

The yolk sac was not firm, it was loose and runny.
Is it possible that that he was born underdeveloped. It hatched after six weeks at a temp of 82 degrees.

These eggs had a severe degree of denting. Its clutchmate was worse, so I disposed of it, thinking the egg looked bad. This wasnt as bad as the other, and hatched.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm not sure what to tell you about your little baby other than it is very cute and looks like a stripe to me. We had two born with MBD and they have improved alot, but their legs almost looked rubbery when they walked. We hand fed them for awhile and made sure they got lots of calcium and like I said they have improved alot. You probably should just take it to a vet and see what they say.

I agree and think its MBD from the pics. Hatchlings can heal fully if helped right away.

Don't be too hard on yourself nor stress youselves and the little one out. Like Spike&Squirt suggested, calc and vet visit
good luck, its a gorgeous little one

Just what I was thinking.. MBD. Get lots of calcium into that little one. I'd take their advice and visit a vet as well, good luck and keep us posted on her progress.

That's a very short incubation @ temp. You see all kinds of neat pattern aberrancies caused by stress in reptiles. I used to hand pick baby boas from a big importer in So. FL and the most bizarre patterns were always the runts and had a high mortality rate. Good luck.
