I just bought a rough green snake 9 days ago. I bought him from petco ( the petco near me is really nice.) and he was very healthy. I put him in a cage with plants a branch and a water bowl. i left him in there without any handling or interference for 5 days. After i put in a cricket he just looked at it a little and wandered off. what could i do to get him to eat?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Not that familiar with those snakes but you did not mention a heat source. Are you providing him with heat?

the one reason i never reccomend rough greens for beginner snakes is that they're very picky eaters. theyll go off feed for months at a time for no reason at all. But you do have a heat source, correct?

pet shops and especially pet shop chains....(petco, pet supermarket etc.) are terrible place to buy snakes....more times than not...they will sell you a bunch of crap to go along with the snake.....15 dollars for snake , tank lid light heatrock bowl sand thermometers etc. 120 dollars.....

anyway, yopu will need a higher humidity with rough greens, a misting with a light (40 to 60 watt depending on size of tank) above the tank (lid half - 3/4 covered) will do the trick, give him a few days to acclimate to the cage.....also try silk worms

good luck
