does anyone work with perenties in the USA, other than zoo's that is, they are awesome animals. they look so awesome even when they are grown. What would a price tag on one of those look like?

One of the coolest things I ever got to do was throw dead rats at full grown perenties.

They were so fast that they would catch them in mid air like a frisbee dog. Then they would gulp down a 1 lb. rat in about 20 seconds.

That was 20 years ago.

I don't know of anyone in the US who currently has a breedable pair.

Babies should easily fetch 10k if you could find them. Probably more.

I believe FR has a female but no male, I imagine somebody out there has one or two they are not talking about.

I was offered a pair out of Singapore for 20 grand but did not have the cash nor did I know the legalities.

On pair was here (US) years ago, and other references to a few other countries.

Hi,
When I was Assistant Editor of Varanix from 1990-95, we got a slough of letters from people owning them. I recall speaking with 1 member back east who knew of a fellow who had 3 male V. giganteus as pets. Later this same person who owned the 3 Perenty's contacted us, but did not become a member - so I 'guess' there are/were.

You can get any kind of Varanus if you have the money. It is not illegal to breed and endangered species, only to own one without proper papers from CITES, USFWS, and so on.... and then there is the Lacey Act, and if officials held that document to the letter, there would be much less 'rare - Australian - Philippine' Varanus in the US than there are today -

cheers,
mbayless

I don't think that's going to help him much. Herptrader is within Australia, he's in the US. You can't export them legally.
