Feeding problems...

straydog Oct 13, 2004 11:04 AM

I have a California King Snake that's about a year old and has been a voracious eater for most of the time I've had him. He was a little picky when I first got him, but soon after he was eating at least once, usually twice a week. I moved in mid-August and he's only eaten once since the move. At first I thought it was because he was about to shed, but then he shed and he still seems uninterested in food. The only time he ate it was a small lizard, but I would like to go back to feeding him hoppers because they're cheaper and easier to get. His behavior also seems a little different. I have his terrarium set up just like it was in my old house and our other reptiles (a large skink and a bearded dragon) don't seem to be acting any different, but my king is trying to escape more than usual and keeps knocking over the branch to climb on I have in there.

I know this is kind of long-winded, but if anyone has any advice on how to get him eating again, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,

Straydog

All kingsnakes slow down on feeding during fall and winter, because of hybernation. It is ok for a snake to go a long period witout food.
