Identifying Breeding! Help please!

lynxseryn Oct 13, 2004 01:46 PM

hi there, our ball Pythons were starting to mate, however we have never been to sure if in fact our female is a female. "she" and the male attached themselves together by the tail and her brongs started moving and wigling? What does this mean? Is it a female? Was it trying to breed? please helP!!!!

By "brongs" I'm guessing your talking about spurs. If "HE" is courting "her"...spurring and such, and "she" is spurring back....I'd say you have two confused males. It happens, find someone in your area to properly sex both animals to be sure. Good luck.

Awesome, yea i ment Prongs, but i type to fast for my own good lol. Ok, yea its confusing because in a description it states that a male would be large or fat tailed with curved prongs, however our suposed male has a fat tail with seemingless "tiny" straight prongs. Thank you for your reply!! Now to find a female....

The spurs are not an accurate way to determine sex in Ball Pythons.

Hmmm..so was the one you thought a male spurring the one you thought a female? Or do you actually have a pair, but your confused as to which is the male and which is the female? Personally, I'd get them sexed if I were you and see if the person can teach you how to do it as well. Finding adult female balls is becoming harder with everyone out there trying to get them as well, and known females aren't going cheap anymore. SO...get them accurately sexed, and then get a plan of attack together. Like dangerously said, spur size isn't the best way of sexing snakes, just a decent generalization. Good luck
