Pics of Chico (Sleepy lizard)

CollardGuy Oct 13, 2004 03:10 PM

He's a little sleepy here, late afternoon photo shoot.

I gave him Parazap for five days like it says in the instructions, but he still won't eat. I guess I'll force feed him a couple small crickets and keep going with Parazap?

has he absolutely eaten nothing? like do you keep count of the crickets or has he just not been eating when you first put them in? force feeding can be stressful
i have never used parazap but i thought if you lizard was infected with worms then you used it for 14 days and if you are using it as a preventative, then you did it for 5 days a month.

I had two crickets in there with him for a week and he just let them crawl on him. I didn't have the stomach for that, so I drowned the crickets in a dish of water and kept them from resurfacing by putting some sand on top of them.

Yes your supposed to continue for almost 2 weeks. But if it were me, I would start to feed him crickets and superworms each day.

Hes wc and ya don't want to let it go to long, they reach a point and it is very difficult to get them back.

I would manually feed him a couple times a day, since hes still a juvey. Its your call, thats just my opinion.

I fed some of my wc's for awhile, and then one day they just grab a super or cricket on their own, and your on you way!

Hope he perks up and eats hes such a gorgeous creature!

Hey Scott,

In an earlier post about Annabella my wc female bicinctores I said it took awhile of coaxing to get her to eat (long story made short)
>
Well, she seemed very depressed because she was pretty old by the time we got her a juvenile. Every 2-3 days I would force feed her by opening her mouth by putting a little bit of pressure on the very tip (lower jaw), really gently. Her mouth would open a little bit and I would put the bug's head in and even if it fell out she would pick it up and eat it. I went on vacation and my husband and room mate took over the task. My husband said when he opened her mouth she left it open for about 30 seconds while he put the bug in. Then when my roommate had to feed her he picked her up and she just opened her mouth "feed me". Then my husband said the last time he tried she wouldn't open her mouth and he showed her the bug and she lunged and hunted them for herself from then on. Sort of , she loves being handfed bugs.
>
She also seemed happier to have another lizard around. If your lizard (he's really cute) is depressed maybe forcefeeding and showing him a little company would help.
>
I didn't know HL's and side-blotched were in the same family.

Well I tried the jaw thing once, and I didn't like squeezing his face, so I just put a fingernail onto his botton lip and pull it down. He doesn't like that, and I have to hold it open while my brother stuffs a crickets in. He really does't like opening his mouth. He snaps it shut and then rolls his tongue out a couple times. I've also got a cup of mealworms that I use as snacks for my Veiled Cham. I can give him some of those too.

My female is named Anna!

Hey Nicole,

Desert Lizards used to belong to Iguanidae, which included everything from Collared lizards to Anoles, to Cyclura Iguanas.
Fabian can probably help out here, but I think there are 8 families that were created from Iguanidae. The Collared and Leopard lizards are now in their own family, Crotaphytidae, the Chuckwallas and Desert Iguanas remained in Iguanidae, and pretty much everything else from the Desert was put into the new family Phrynosomatidae. This includes the Spiny Lizards, the Horned Lizards, the Zebra-Tails, Side-Blotched, Earless Lizards, Rock Lizards, The Fringe-Toed Lizards, and the Tree/Brush Lizards. Something to to with DNA.
I hope this helps,

talk to you soon,

-Phil

Wow two weeks? I didn't know that. I am giving him tea and a couple crickets dusted with parazap in the morning-noon and the same in the later afternoon. Since He hasn't eaten hardly anything for a while befor I started forcing him, should I give his some crickets with vitamins or calcium or both as well as parazap? I feed my crickets carrots, occasionally apple, oatmeal, and occasionally Cheerios. I should have started this awhile back this summer, but I though he was just intimidated by the slightly larger Anna.
