joliff line axanthic=anerythristic????

lilroach56 Oct 13, 2004 03:28 PM

is it just me or do joliff "axanthics" look more like anerythristic?

as ball pythons contain more yellow than red (look at albinos) and the joliff "axanthic" isn't as silver and black as the SK and VPI lines. I mean an axanthic ball python should essentially look like the SK and VPI lines as they clearly lack the yellow pigment that makes up the "tan/brownish color" of their sides and the joliff line makes it fade a lot, but doesn't make it the silver/black as the SK and VPI lines. Also if you look at the Joliff snows they look more like very low contrast albinos instead of the mostly white snakes like the VPI/SK lines.

axanthic=lack of yellow
anerythrisitic=lack of red.

I know what you mean about the Jolliff snows they are not the white snake we all hoped they would be but I think that all Axanthics vary greatly at how much silver they retain as adults. I have seen Axanthics from all three proven lines that are all browned out as adults I honestly beleive that you have to start with a nice axanthic for your breeding projects it is hard to tell when they are hatchlings if they are going to be nice adults or not but I have a male Axanthic who is still as siver as he was as a hatchling he blows away any VPI or SK I have ever seen.so I cant wait to see what kind of combos he makes.

How old is he??
I would love to see a photo.

I have only seen one adult that held a decent portion of the "hatchling appearance".(VPI line I think)

Thanks

Here is a pic of him at 900 grams he is really more silver than the pic I am waiting for him to shed pretty soon and I will take some better pics.

The picture is a bit dark, but he looks real nice.

thanks for the photo.

was that last year?? or have you started breeding already??

I started cooling last week, this time of year is great.

good luck with him

Maybe the VPI & SK line should change there snakes name, because Jolliff was the first to produce a snow Ball from an axanthic animal.

We have several adult Jolliff axanthics here and I think they all look very silver in color. This is an axanthic het for snow male pictured with a huge female double het snow. We're breeding a few different combinations together this year to make Jolliff snows and I think we'll see some variation in the snows. After all only a few exist so I think its a little too early to form an opinion.

Does anyone think that if you combined all three lines of axanthic you would really get an all white animal?

I do not know. But I think all will have yellow. To me it is the degree of yellow. Some look like pale albino some look like snows......
Check out my snow page to compare what has been given to me.
I have the VPI and the Jolliff line to look at. The SK have not sent me pictures of their animal.
BTW I am working with all three line! Click on Snows!

All snakes pass the same genes pretty much, most people breed a visible morph to a normal and breed the offspring back. So with this in mind the normal snake will pass some genes, pattern to the offspring, so if you breed to a very contrasting normal then that is passed off...selective breeding. To get a totally patternless snow In my opinion we must find the palest albinos to start off with and keep breeding back with the palest offspring, there will always be a pattern i believe but we can breed most of it out.....just going to take some time and work
